#MyVegStory

Posted on 05 May 2012 by Emma (VM Blog Manager)

When I was growing up I was something of a picky eater. With a British background, our meals consisted mostly of meat, potatoes, and some kind of frozen vegetable. I thought I hated vegetables growing up – except broccoli and corn. I fed peas to my cat, I gagged on mushrooms – I generally tormented [...]

Vegan Uncensored: Pest Control, An Ethical Dilemma

Posted on 26 April 2012 by Zoe Eisenberg

Whenever I think about karma I often think about the idea of non-violence, and specifically the belief that you should avoid harming any living creature. I'm an animal lover myself, and I'm able to find something to adore or admire in most animals. I give spiders their space and, well, remember my post on snakes? Most vegans would consider themselves animal lovers, and avoid harming animals—if you did harm animals, that would sort of defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?

The Vegan Monk says, “Monasticism Does A Body Good!”

Posted on 25 April 2012 by Guest Contributor

I am often asked: “Why are you a monk?” My answer is always the same: "To seek God.” The life of a Benedictine monk is one of searching - searching for God. As monks, we are searching for something greater than ourselves, and this is what calls me out of bed each and every morning. Yes, I could go back to sleep, but my desire for sleep is overpowered by my desire to know God more intimately.

Animal Matters: Making Compassion Fun For Kids

Posted on 27 March 2012 by Guest Contributor

After years of headlines about animal overpopulation and suffering, I was desperate to find a way to teach children about some of the issues that pets and animals face in the United States today. I also wanted to incorporate healthier eating for children because I had heard of a four year old boy that had suffered a heart attack, most likely due to obesity. There is so much suffering in the lives of animals and humans and it’s often (if not always) unnecessary.

Posted on 26 March 2012 by Lani Muelrath

Imagine: Strolling into any restaurant, popping open the menu, and navigating to the vegan items.  And even better, vegan items starred with ‘no added fats [...]
