Parents are, hands down, their children's largest influence, especially when they are young. During the first handful of years, they are often their kids' sole sources of information, and they lay the foundation and framework for the way their children will live their lives. As we have been discussing this week on the VM blog, mothers form early bonds with their children - and these bonds can be used to instill solid values and ideas from a young age.

I am a vegan mom, and our family of five eats a whole-foods, plant-powered diet. It wasn’t always that way for me, though. I grew up eating meat, processed meats, cheese, dairy, and junk food. It took years to retrain my palate. I transitioned to eating vegan over 15 years ago, and did so to be a healthier me. So, when we began having children, I surely wanted that same good health for our children.
